Richard Berkowitz Named to Miami Cancer Institute’s Board of Directors

July 18, 2022 – Berkowitz Pollack Brant Advisors + CPAs today announced its founding executive chairman, Richard A. Berkowitz, JD, CPA, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Miami Cancer Institute, a leading cancer research and treatment center affiliated with Baptist Health South Florida.

Berkowitz’s deep commitment to the South Florida community is exemplified by his volunteer work that currently includes serving on the board of trustees of The Miami Foundation, the executive committee of the Broward Workshop, the Citizens Board at the University of Miami and the board of directors with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, Take Stock in Children and FairDistricts NOW.

He has also served as past chairman of some of these organizations and well as the Community Foundation of Broward and the Dolphins Cancer Challenge. As a result of these activities, he was recently honored with the “Dorothy Shula Award for Outstanding Volunteerism” from Leadership Broward and is a past recipient of the “Joyce Galya Award for Community Service” from the University of Miami, the “Florida CPAs in Public Service Award” from the Florida Institute of CPAs and a “Champion of Education” from the Florida Department of Education. In addition, he has been recognized multiple times as an “Ultimate CEO,” Top-100 Power Leader” and “Power Leader in Corporate Philanthropy” from the South Florida Business Journal.

Berkowitz is also active in professional endeavors, having served as a council member to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and past president of the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants while maintaining ongoing membership in the American Arbitration Association, the Florida Academy of Certified Mediators, the Florida Bar and the Dade County Bar Association. He holds a juris doctorate from the University of Miami and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.
