The Florida legislature has designated the entire month of August a sales-tax holiday on back-to-school supplies, while also extending this tax relief to residents on an annual basis.

From August 1 through August 31, families can purchase the following school supplies in Florida without incurring state and local sales tax:

Items specifically excluded from the August sales-tax holiday include cellular telephones and video game consoles, computer and related accessories used for commercial use, and the rental of any items qualifying for sales tax relief.

Retailers and other businesses selling eligible items tax-free in August should report those transactions as exempt sales on their sales tax returns.
