The 2018 Tax Filing Season is Not Over by Adam Cohen, CPA

The March and April tax filing deadline have come and gone, and many individual and business taxpayers can happily bid farewell to their 2018 federal income tax-filing responsibilities. However, if you are one of the millions of taxpayers who applied for an automatic extension of time to file for 2018, don’t get too comfortable. The Fall filing deadlines can creep up faster than you think.

Rather than waiting until the last minute to gather together all of the documents you and your accountant need to file your returns, you may want to commit some time during the sluggish summer months to get organized. This will not only save you and your accountant the headaches of a last-minute scramble for 2018, but it may it may uncover a wealth of untapped tax-saving and wealth-building opportunities that your tax accountant can help you take advantage of as early as this year.
